Effect of levamisole on the restoration of delayed hypersensitivity

Abstract
In order to evaluate the effect of levamisole to restore delayed hypersensitivity, twenty-seven cases who showed negative or 1+ response in the DNCB skin test were measured the conversion or intensification of delayed hypersensitivity after levamisole treatment and determined the depressive effect of C-reactive protein to the cellular immunity after levamisole.
1. After levamisole treatment, the positive conversion rates of patients who disclosed negative response in DNCB skin tests were 91.7% (11 of 12cases) in non-malignant group and 71.4% (5 of 7 cases) in malignant group.
2. Eight cases with 1+ response in the DNCB skin test caused intensification to 2+ response in 4 cases (50%) after levamisole.
3. Serum CRP values of no change group in DNCB skin test were greater than 3+ in all 4 cases after levamisole treatment, while those of conversion or intensification group were less than 2+ in 8 of 11 cases.
These findings were suggested that CRP might be depressive effect on the T-cell function.
